Tango for Flute, Accordion, and Symphony Orchestra (2024) - Denis Khorov

Tango for Flute, Accordion, and Symphony Orchestra (2024) - Denis Khorov

SKU:

Written on a commission from Alexander Veretennikov and Irina Stachinskaya, Tango is Khorov’s bold exploration of a genre that balances passion, elegance, and dramatic tension. The dialogue between flute and accordion unfolds as a vivid interplay of voices — sometimes playful and airy, sometimes charged with intensity — all set against the rich colors of a symphonic canvas.

Critics have emphasized the work’s unique resonance. As Marina Gaikovich wrote in Nezavisimaya Gazeta: “In the spirit of Piazzolla, with a pungent theme supported by exquisite orchestration, Tango seemed intended to distract from social concerns. Yet in the restrained and mournful slow section, or in the percussion of the final chord, the gifted composer nevertheless kept the genre firmly anchored in time.”

Composer Denis Khorov is a member of the Union of Composers of Russia, the Moscow Composers’ Union, and the Union of Composers of the Republic of Buryatia. He serves as Artistic Director of the Festival of New Music in Khabarovsk.  A recipient of the Russian Government Fellowship for young professionals in culture and the arts, Khorov is Composer-in-Residence at the Khabarovsk Regional Philharmonic and Head of the Creative Projects Department at the A.N. Scriabin Memorial Museum in Moscow.

He has participated in numerous international musical projects and festivals, and his output includes symphonic and chamber works, music for theatrical productions, as well as multimedia ethno-projects.
