The Stars and Stripes Forever is a patriotic American march composed by John Philip Sousa in 1896. It was officially designated as the National March of the United States by an act of Congress in 1987. Sousa reportedly composed the piece while returning from a European vacation, inspired by the thought of his homeland.
This work has been arranged for such varied groups as the Army Field Band, Brass Bands, the Mormen Tabernacle Choir as well as being regularly performed by accordion orchestras.
