Prelude in C# Minor
Prelude in C# Minor
SKU: ATG10090A
Prelude in C-sharp minor, Op. 3 No. 2 is one of Sergei Rachmaninoff’s most famous piano compositions. Written in 1892, it was part of his Morceaux de fantaisie, Op. 3, and quickly became a signature piece for the composer.
The prelude is structured in ternary form (ABA):
-
Opening: A dramatic, tolling motif that resembles the bells of Moscow.
-
Middle section: A fast, agitated passage with chromatic triplets.
-
Final section: A powerful return to the opening theme, ending in a quiet coda.
Its dark, expressive character and technical demands make it a favorite among pianists and audiences alike.
Anthony Galla-Rini has arranged this work for:
accordions 1-5, bass accordion, timpani, cymbal.
