Jalousie "Tango Tzigane" is a famous tango composed by Danish violinist and composer Jacob Gade in 1925. The piece became an international sensation and is now considered a classic in the tango repertoire.
About the Composition
-
The tango consists of two contrasting themes:
-
A dramatic and temperamental section in D minor.
-
A lyrical and flowing section in D major.
-
-
It was originally composed as part of the musical accompaniment for the Danish premiere of the silent film Don Q, Son of Zorro.
-
The title Jalousie (meaning "Jealousy") was inspired by a sensational crime of passion that Gade had read about.
