ED0092 - Hokianga Hornpipe (solo accordion) by Gary Daverne
This is a hornpipe - a traditional dance form often associated with early sailors to NZ. Daverne infuses it with a distinctly New Zealand flavor, inspired by the Hokianga region’s maritime heritage.
Hokianga Hornpipe: Originally called Hokianga Harbourside, is from Gary’s musical: John Hobbs - A Man With A Mission, set in the 1830s in the northern region of New Zealand’s North Island. Hokianga is on the west coast and this was a dance/song for the sailors.
Lionel Reekie was the soloist on the Koriana album and it was released on CD Rhapsody by Gary Daverne for accordion with NZ Symphony Orchestra backing.
