Full title: An der schönen blauen Donau (“By the Beautiful Blue Danube”)
The Blue Danube Waltz Op. 314 is one of the most famous pieces of classical music ever written, composed by Johann Strauss II in 1866–67. It premiered in Vienna and has since become an unofficial musical symbol of Austria.
Originally written as a choral work, with humorous lyrics added by poet Josef Weyl.
The orchestral version soon became far more popular.
