Battle Hymn Of The Republic (Solo)

Battle Hymn Of The Republic (Solo)

SKU: mfa7077

“The Battle Hymn of the Republic” is a famous American patriotic song written by Julia Ward Howe in 1861, during the U.S. Civil War. It’s best known for its powerful refrain “Glory, glory, hallelujah!” and its strong religious imagery.

The melody comes from an earlier camp‑meeting tune written by William Steffe around 1856.

Union soldiers adapted that tune into a marching song called “John Brown’s Body.”

Howe heard the soldiers singing it and wrote new, more poetic and biblical lyrics in November 1861.
