Alt‑Wien is one of Leopold Godowsky’s most beloved short piano works. It is No. 11 in his 1920 suite Triakontameron, a collection of 30 character pieces. Despite Godowsky’s reputation for extreme virtuosity, Alt‑Wien is one of his more accessible and lyrical creations.
According to Presto Music, the piece was written in a single day and is considered one of his “best loved easy works for solo piano”.
